An intensive research started with an adventure trip to Middleburg and the Land of Axel, a field exploration to elucidate the mystery behind the costume’s unique and surprising wing-shaped design. Meeting locals sustaining the tradition was crucial to understand the dress, its chromatic codes and variations (different according to the occasion).
The replica is a wintery Sunday version, worn to go to church, and consists in 15 overlapped garments and 8 accessories, embroidered and beaded by hand.
